Good morning — here's where gold and silver stand on the morning of 26 August 2026.
In short (26 August 2026): 24K gold is around ₹1,62,700/10g and 22K around ₹1,49,200/10g; silver is about ₹2,44,100/kg. Gold is holding near record-area highs on a weaker dollar and Fed rate-hold bets, with the whole market waiting on today's US PCE inflation report — so the near-term read is firm-but-parked, broadly sideways at the top. These are indicative India reference levels — AT Jewels' live counter rate is the billing price.

What is moving the market this week
Two things are doing most of the work. First, the US dollar has stayed soft — the dollar index is hovering near the 99 mark — and with markets leaning towards the Federal Reserve holding rates rather than hiking, gold has pushed back up to the record-area highs we saw earlier this month. There's also a "dollar-debasement" theme in play after the US Treasury said it would roughly double its bond buybacks from early September, which tends to send some money into gold as a store of value.
Second, everyone is waiting. Today brings the US PCE inflation report — the Fed's preferred inflation gauge — and on Friday the Fed chair speaks at Jackson Hole. Until those land, big players are sitting on their hands, which is why the tape feels firm but stuck. In the background, Middle East tensions around the Strait of Hormuz keep a small safe-haven bid under the metal. On the rupee, the USD/INR is near 95.8, which nudges the local price a touch higher than global moves alone would suggest.
The near-term view
My plain read: gold looks firm underneath but sideways at the highs for now — strong enough that I wouldn't expect a sharp fall, but sitting right below record levels with a major inflation number due today, so it can wobble either way on the headline. Silver has bounced back after a soft couple of days; it's the more jumpy of the two, so expect bigger swings in both directions. If you're buying for a wedding or a festival, buy by your need and your date, and split a larger purchase into parts rather than trying to time a single "green day." Nobody — me included — can promise which way the next headline pushes the price.

Will gold prices go up or down this week?
Gold is firm and near record highs, but today's US PCE inflation data and Friday's Jackson Hole speech can move it either way — the honest answer is sideways-to-firm with no certainty about the direction of the next headline.
