What is moving the market this week
Gold has pushed to fresh highs and is now consolidating there. The whole week really compresses into two events: US PCE inflation (the Fed's preferred gauge), along with a Q2 GDP revision, lands Wednesday, and new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh gives his first Jackson Hole address on Friday. After a run of softer inflation prints, markets are leaning toward the Fed holding rates in September — that, a slightly softer dollar and steady safe-haven demand have kept gold supported, even with US bond yields still elevated.
Silver has had a strong month but is quieter this week — firm, yet lagging gold's latest leg rather than leading it. That gap is worth watching, but it's not a change of trend on its own.
The near-term view
Broadly sideways at high levels for both metals into Wednesday and Friday. With big data and a Fed speech ahead, a two-way wobble around these highs is normal — prices could tick either way on the numbers. If you're buying for a wedding or a festival, my honest advice is the same as always: buy to your date and your need, in parts, rather than trying to time a single green or red day. Spreading a purchase over a few visits smooths out exactly this kind of choppiness. This is a plain buyer's read, not a trading call.
Frequently asked

Will gold prices go up or down this week?
No one can say for certain. Gold is holding near record highs and the direction from here hinges on Wednesday's US inflation data and the Fed's Jackson Hole speech on Friday — so expect a sideways-to-choppy week around these levels rather than a clear one-way move.
