Good morning, and welcome to your gold and silver update for Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
In short (18 August 2026): 24K gold is around ₹1,55,800/10g and 22K around ₹1,42,800/10g; silver is about ₹2,50,000/kg. Gold is holding just above its recent breakout after a strong run — it eased a touch today as the dollar firmed and traders trimmed September rate-hike bets, so the tone is steady-to-firm rather than racing higher. These are indicative India reference levels — AT Jewels' live counter rate is the billing price.

What is moving the market this week
Two things are pulling in opposite directions. On one side, the US dollar has firmed and traders have quietly walked back their bets on a September US rate hike — a firmer dollar usually caps how far gold can run in the short term, and that is why today's tape cooled slightly. On the other side, the Middle East stays on the radar: with the US–Iran ceasefire window lapsing, there is a steady safe-haven bid underneath gold that keeps putting a floor under any dip.
Closer to home, the rupee is hovering near ₹95.6 to the dollar, which keeps imported gold and silver broadly stable in rupee terms. Silver had a strong run of its own recently but slipped about 1% today and is still taking its cues from gold rather than leading on its own.
The near-term view
My plain read: gold looks steady-to-firm and is most likely to consolidate just above the ₹1,55,000 area, with a rough band of roughly ₹1,54,000–1,57,000 per 10g for 24K unless a big headline moves it. Silver looks choppy and range-bound, somewhere around ₹2,45,000–2,55,000 per kg. For families buying for a wedding or festival, the sensible approach is unchanged: buy by your need and your date, split the purchase into parts, and don't chase a single green day. Nobody can time the exact bottom, and steady buying beats guessing.

Will gold prices go up or down this week?
Nobody can promise a direction. Right now gold is holding just above its recent breakout, with a firmer dollar capping the upside and a Middle-East safe-haven bid supporting the floor — so a steady-to-firm, range-bound week looks more likely than a sharp move either way.
