Good morning — here’s where gold and silver stand on 17 August 2026, with a plain read for anyone buying for a wedding or the festive season ahead.
In short (17 August 2026): 24K gold is around ₹1,52,400/10g and 22K around ₹1,39,700/10g; silver is about ₹2,33,000/kg. A run of softer US economic data has nudged the dollar lower and given gold a firm undertone, while silver is holding steady — so the near-term read is sideways-to-firm. These are indicative India reference levels — AT Jewels’ live counter rate is the billing price.

What is moving the market this week
The bigger story right now is on the US side. A string of softer economic readings — last week’s weak retail-sales number on top of cooler inflation prints — has pushed the US dollar down below a key level and kept expectations of tighter policy in check. A softer dollar usually gives gold a gentle lift, and that is what we saw: gold firmed back above a technical level traders had been watching.
Two things are keeping a lid on runaway moves, though. Fresh tension around the Strait of Hormuz (tanker incidents in the Gulf) cuts both ways for gold — it adds a safe-haven bid but also props up oil, which feeds inflation worries. And silver, which often takes its cue from gold, has no independent momentum of its own this week as industrial-demand signals stay soft. Steady central-bank gold buying and a rupee holding near ₹95.6 to the dollar remain quiet supports in the background.
The near-term view
My honest read for the next few sessions is sideways-to-firm on gold and broadly flat on silver. Gold looks like it wants to test a little higher, but it is sitting right under a level that has capped it before, so I would not assume a straight line up. A sensible working range for 24K is roughly ₹1,50,000–1,54,000 per 10g unless something new hits the headlines.
If you are buying for a wedding or a festival with a fixed date, my advice is the same as always: buy by your need and your calendar, and split a larger purchase into parts rather than trying to time a single perfect day. Chasing a green day rarely pays off, and skipping a purchase you actually need in the hope of a dip can cost you just as much. This is a general read, not a trading call.
Frequently asked
What is the gold rate today in India?
Today 24K gold is around ₹1,52,400 per 10g and 22K around ₹1,39,700 per 10g (indicative). The final price you pay depends on making charges, GST and AT Jewels’ live counter rate at the time of billing.
What is the silver rate today?
Silver is about ₹2,33,000 per kg (indicative) today.
Will gold prices go up or down this week?
No one can promise which way prices go. Right now softer US data and a weaker dollar give gold a mild firm lean, but it is sitting just under a resistance level, so a sideways-to-slightly-higher week looks most likely — with no certainty either way.
